Do you know anyone based in Surrey who maintain Getidy Vacuum autoclaves?

Answer:

We use Independent Inspections. We are based in Brighton and I think they are based in Watford. Tel: 02084213366, Fax: 02084215144 and our service chap is called Tony: 07915 388523. They are friendly and reliable.

Answer:

Paul Whatley of Serve-I.C.E. Ltd, 113 Potters Lane, Send, Surrey GU23 7AW. Tel: 01483751789 Fax: info@serve-ice.com.

Answer:

There are two companies that come to mind:

Independent Inspections – they cover all makes of autoclaves and compressors (but they don’t do washer disinfectors) tel: 020 8421 3366.  They are based in Watford but cover everywhere!

Blueprint Dental may also be able to help. They seem to cover everything in the practice (including dental chairs!).  They may be able to help you – 0845 003 6274.

Answer:

We use Eschmann, but we do have Eschmann autoclaves. We belong to Dental Buying Group – based in Cheshire, but have engineers all over the country – they are good too (and they have extra packages such as radiation and health and safety).

What providers would you recommend for online CPD for my nurses?

Answer:

One of our nurses uses the GDC website for all her CPD. There is a CPD section and she fills it in every time she goes on a course etc. It seems to work quite well for her!

Answer:

We use many different CPD providers but the one online is CTS, it’s free but you are limited to what subject is on offer.

Answer:

We use DCP Update for the team. Just register online, it’s easy to use and very reasonable.

Answer:

We have used FMC’s CPD in practice team edition, which is in magazine format but can be completed online. It is straight-forward and covers 10 hours core verifiable CPD so that the essentials are covered, leaving the rest of the year to find more relevant and specific CPD for staff throughout the year – www.fmc.co.uk.

Answer:

I have been using the dental nurse network, it’s around £25 pp pa but well worth it. Try the website: www.dental-nursing.co.uk. Each nurse will be issued with their own CPD access. Approx £200.00 pa.

Answer:

This was actually one of the first things I had to arrange when I arrived here in October. I found that the CPD available online wasn’t measurable with most sites and it was simply just a case of reading an article and that’s it – CPD hours done and a box ticked. However I was recommended www.RDSurgery.com which we find really useful as unlike many other websites there is a test at the end of the articles and subjects. These tests are completed online and the results are immediate with a certificate to print out and as the Practice Manager it is easy to monitor. Its fairly cheap right now as it has been heavily subsidised (currently £25 per head) but it may go up next year.

It’s been seven months since we subscribed and it has been very popular amongst the staff and apart from the core CPD subjects, there are also other articles that my nurses find useful.

We do a lot of lunch and learns with the reps – free lunch and free CPD, also our college does courses some are free eg. cross infection.  We received 70 hours verifiable free and this year equality and diversity.   £20.00 per staff member,  100 hours verifiable maybe worth while checking your college. Some staff  do the free CPD in the BDA for non-verifiable also just put down reading magazines, internet etc.

Where can I get an information security Risk Assessment document?

If you go on http://www.psnc.org.uk/pages/ig.hmtl you will find the PSNC have given permission for us to use their template policies and this covers a lot of the IG requirements.

I used the Information Mapping Tool guidance to help me with this, which can be found in knowledge base resources on the IG website.

If you have registered with the toolkit there is a template document on the toolkit. All the documents you will need under the resources tab.

Where can I source competitively priced pharmaceuticals and disposables?

Answer:

We’ve just reviewed prices with all our suppliers and managed to save nearly half the price on gloves with same supplier just by telling them we were looking at other providers.

Answer:

Try Gompels. They're very cost effective for gloves, pinnies, masks and paper disposables.

Answer:

I use Kent Express and deal direct with our account manager rather than customer services as we have a discount agreement and pay less than the catalogue prices. You also collect partner points which you can re-imburse for dental products, high street vouchers or other retail goods. Our account manager is Lee Davies and his number is 01634 877 481.

Answer:

We use Trycare and Schottlander and are very happy with them.

Answer:

If you speak to a Henry Schein or Dental Directory rep, I'm sure they will come to an agreement on prices.  Our disposables and HS products are supplied to us on a special deal(contract price). Especially if you are ordering for many practices.

Answer:

We mostly use Dental Directory – they give us great discount as we order online and they also have a system where you get a rebate either every 6 or 12 months.

Answer:

Try the Glove Club, 0500 456 832, www.gloveclub.com. Good gloves and good prices on barriers and rolls etc but not a huge selection at the moment. I find them much more economical though especially tissues and hand towels.

Are coloured instrument identification bands within HTM 01-05 regulations?

Answer:

We still use some. As they aren't mentioned in the HTM 01-05 document we can only assume that they are still OK to use.

Answer:

We are still using them, they go through the autoclave so I do not see that this is an issue. Please let me know if you hear any different.

Answer:

We no longer use them as our local PCT advisor told us not to. His reasoning was, that they could harbour bacteria. To differentiate, I had to order different handles for each surgery. That unfortunately meant spending more money as we couldn't think of a cheaper option.

Who services Sirona C4 chairs in the Northamptonshire area?

Answer:

We are in North Yorkshire, a Sident engineer comes from Leeds to service our C8 chairs, you could try them as their head office is Chertsey, Surrey, so they must have a network of engineers to cover the country.  Sident: 01932 582900 or service@sident.co.uk

Answer:

Try Steve Jarvis, based in Luton on 07779 619805

Answer:

We use Henry Schein. Their engineer's department telephone number is 02920 442800.

Answer:

Michael Walls of Unique Dental Maintenance would be delighted to help. 07910 893592 – we can highly recommend him.

Answer:

I had Sirona chairs and found that the best and cheaper option for engineer is Decadent. Miles Tucker. Give them a go to see if they cover your area.

Answer:

We are in Cambridge, we use Blueprint Dental 07917035731. They are based in Surrey.

Answer:

DB Dental Equipment (01484 401015). Not sure if these guys go to this area, but they have excellent service and are very friendly and will be willing to offer any help that they can.
